Tannins

Tannins are polyphenols of natural origin, obtained by water extraction.
Tannins are largely represented in the vegetal world and form a plant’s natural defense mechanism.
They are derivatives and polymers from sugars and are generally grouped into two large
families : the Hydrolysable and Condensed according to the plant of origin.

These products have acid and antioxidant qualities. They react to cations of metals and proteins.
In practical terms, it offers them various properties: disruption of metabolisms, action on proteins
and enzymes...They have been used for a very long time for their organoleptic interest and their antiseptic and nematicidal function to treat leather as well as in animal and human nutrition.

Developed in partnership with the Italian company SILVATEAM, world leader in the extraction of these substances.
IAZ DEVELOPPEMENT led the development of regulations for the creation of FITOLTAN (Castanea and Schinopsis Tannins sp.) 40% SL.

The product attracted strong agronomic interest in the fight against nematodes, and a set of fungal diseases of soil and foliage.
The product has been deposited as a basic substance under Article 23 of EC Regulation 1107/2009.

IAZ17-02

Originally, a patent issued in the 40s (Oil synergist for insecticides, C. Eagleson US 22202145 -1940) that highlights the advantages of sesame oil and its constituents with insecticides.
Later work highlighted that the lineage of these substances (sesamin family) had antioxidant properties. They possess the characteristic of inhibiting the action in cytochrome P-450 cells. This enzyme is responsible for degradation and is common to all living organisms.
The applications are numerous, particularly in the medical field. In agriculture it has for effect to delay the degradation of insecticides and thus to potentially increase their effectiveness.

In the 1970s and 1980s, science researched synthetic substances for similar effects. And thus PBO (piperonyl butoxide) was developed primarily with natural pyrethres and pyrethroids.
The latest regulatory developments on PBO, its classification as an endocrine disrupting potential by EFSA (1) and the work carried out by ANSES (2) on the re-evaluation of authorized MRLs motivated its withdrawal from the Organic Agriculture specifications – organic label. This was decided on at the meeting of the National Organic Agriculture Committee of INAO on 17 March, 2016.
In this context the Organic profession was mobilized to find alternative solutions especially in the field of stored food and commodities where PBO was widely used.

ITAB and SYNABIO (3) led a program to look for possible alternatives based on natural substances. The result of which led to a revived interest in the unique characteristics of sesame oil.

In August 2018, IAZ DEVELOPPEMENT filed an application with ANSES for the market entry of the solution coded IAZ 17-02 as an adjuvant for insecticide slurry.

The product itself contains 50% sesame oil (certified organic 100% pure raw unrefined juice), EW formulation (aqueous emulsion) so it could adapt to all modes of application: from cold fogging to classic spraying with varied dilution levels.
The solution meets the criteria of article L.253-6 of the rural code, which defines organically controlled products.
